HARP AUDITIONS | February 6, 2016, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Harp auditions are by invitation only. To be considered for harp auditions, please submit a resume to Beverly Frittelli no later than January 10, 2016. Invitations will be sent via e-mail by January 12, 2016. Auditions will be held at the opera office – 3009 Industrial Terrace, Suite 100, Austin, TX  78758.

You must provide your own harp for the auditions.
Auditions will be held in 15 minute increments with approximately 45 minutes to warm up.

Harp Audition Repertoire:

1. Solo of your choice
2. Excerpts from the following:

  • Mozart | Concerto for Flute and Harp
  • Bartok | Concerto for Orchestra
  • Britten | Young People’s guide to the Orchestra
  • Debussy | La Mer (1909)
  • Donizetti | Lucia  Cadenza
  • Strauss | Don Juan
  • Stravinsky | Symphony in Three Movements
  • Tchaikovsky | The Nutcracker
  • Verdi | La forza del destino Overture

Harp Audition Repertoire (with excerpts – password protected): Harpists must play from the excerpts and not edited versions. Excerpts are used by permission and provided for study purposes only. Please destroy them immediately after audition.

Please note: Austin Opera performs three productions a year at the Long Center in Austin, Texas. The Austin Opera Orchestra is not a full time orchestra. The number of services for harp is repertoire specific. Harpist must provide own harp. The scheduling for services for each production is generally spread over a 2-3 week period.  Austin Opera does not provide any housing or travel. The Austin Opera Orchestra operates under a master contract negotiated between Austin Opera and Local AFM 433.

VIOLIN AUDITIONS | February 7, 2016, 10:00 AM

To be eligible for violin auditions, please submit a resume to Beverly Frittelli and a refundable $100 deposit to the Austin Opera office no later than February 1, 2016. Upon receipt, you will be emailed a link and password for the excerpts. Auditions will be held at the opera office – 3009 Industrial Terrace, Suite 100, Austin, TX  78758.

Violin Audition Repertoire:

  1. A solo of your choice – a movement of a sonata, the exposition of a concerto, or other solo
  2. Excerpts from the following:
  • Strauss “Don Juan”
  • Mozart Symphony
  • Humperdinck Hansel and Gretel Overture
  • Puccini La Boheme – Act II
  • Giordano Andrea Chenier
  • Verdi La Forza del Destino Overture
  • Wagner Tannhauser

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone who accepts an offer of employment from the Austin Opera Orchestra must have a low C extension, or be willing to get one before the start of employment.

    • Bottesini #2 or Koussevitsky Concerto
    • Any Dance movement from a Bach Cello suite
  2. Excerpts from the following:
