ALO’s January 2014 production of Tosca stunned local critics, with the opera receiving five nominations from the 2013-14 Austin Critics Table Awards.
“We are exceedingly proud of Tosca and all of the artists who collaborated to make this a successful production,” says Joe Specter, ALO General Manager. “While the principal singers each received a nomination, I’m sure they would note that it takes an entire creative team to put on a great show. Credit also goes to the chorus and orchestra as well as to the stage crew, costumers and makeup artists and everyone who worked so hard to make sure Austin loved this Tosca.”
Tosca saw the biggest audiences of the year with the Saturday performance nearly selling out. In reviews of the production, Luke Quinton of the Austin American-Statesman said, ” ALO’s “Tosca” is a joy to watch. And to hear. Conductor and ALO artistic director Richard Buckley and the orchestra give another energetic, lively performance.”
Taking part in the Critics Table award process this year were the Austin American-Statesman‘s Cate Blouke (theatre), Claire Canavan (theatre), Luke Quinton (classical music/visual arts), and Jeanne Claire van Ryzin (arts), and the Austin Chronicle‘s Elizabeth Cobbe (theatre), Caitlin Greenwood (visual arts), Seth Orion Schwaiger (visual arts), Jonelle Seitz (dance), Natalie Zeldin (classical music), and Robert Faires (arts).
