The Austin Opera Guild’s mission is to help provide cultural nourishment to the Central Texas community, as well as provide financial support to Austin Opera.
Guild members enjoy the company of other music lovers through educational and social events and volunteer opportunities throughout the opera season.
We invite you to join us and share our love of opera in Austin. Please read the President’s Welcome from Guild President Lissa Anderson.
Austin Opera was founded in 1986 by Artistic/Music Director Walter Ducloux and General Director Joseph McClain. Community leaders Alfred King, Board Chairman, and Gay Ratliff, President, created a strong Board of Trustees dedicated to developing a highly skilled and professional opera company that would round out the already burgeoning arts community in Austin.
That dedication was reinforced on June 11, 1986, at a Guild charter membership meeting hosted by University of Texas System Chancellor and Mrs. Hans Mark at the historic Bauer House. The meeting was attended by 400 opera enthusiasts who became members. Thus, the Austin Opera Guild, dedicated to supporting Austin Opera and its goals, was founded.
The Guild is 30 years strong and much has evolved. Today, the Guild is an organization that focuses on volunteer service to the Austin Opera company, opera enrichment for our members through social and educational opportunities, and fundraising through the Guild Boutique and Special Events.
About 250 members make up the Guild, a lifeline for the company and our Central Texas community. There is nothing more rewarding than donating your time, energy, and talent to the Austin Opera. Join the Austin Opera Guild today!
