Part of the enjoyment of membership in the Austin Opera Guild is volunteering. Through working together, Guild members build life-long friendships. New Guild members are especially encouraged to volunteer. Seasoned Guild members will always be on hand to show you the ropes.
Volunteer Opportunities & Standing Committees
Communications publishes The Libretto, a quarterly printed and electronic newsletter. The Libretto provides information on Guild and Opera activities, volunteer needs, news, and updates. Communications also updates the Guild website.
Educational Outreach works with AO staff to support a docent program, which consists of trained volunteers visiting local schools to introduce students to opera. The program is an expansion of AO’s “Access Opera” series, which invites students to attend dress rehearsals.
Enrichment coordinates educational programs and special events for Guild members to broaden their understanding and general experience of opera and specifically of Austin Opera productions.
Membership maintains and updates the membership files, sends renewal notices and welcome letters to new members, and produces a new Membership Yearbook each season. Membership also plans and organizes three parties for the Guild membership each year.
Merchandising oversees the purchasing, operations and volunteer management of the Opera Boutique in consultation with the Director of Finance.
Support Services, in consultation with the AO’s Artistic and General Directors and appropriate staff, oversees visiting artist, chorus and orchestra hospitality. This includes the Orchestra Hospitality Dinner, Chorus Hospitality Lunch, visiting artists welcome baskets and airport welcome.
Volunteer Operations contacts and organizes Guild and Trustee volunteers to assist with Guild and AO projects and events.
SERENATA WINE DINNER AND AUCTION
The Serenata Wine Dinner and Auction is a major fundraiser for Austin Opera. Staffed by Guild volunteers, this event seeks to raise funds and broaden the Opera audience.
OPENING NIGHT DINNERS
The Opening Night Dinners are fundraising events for Austin Opera. Guild volunteers plan and execute these events that bring together Opera goers prior to the performances.
