Join Austin Opera and the Butler School of Music for the annual Butler Opera International Festival and Competition.
This international outreach program directed by Professors Darlene Wiley and Tamara Sanikidze competitively selects the world’s five most gifted pre-professional singers who are ready to launch their careers in opera. The finalists travel to the University of Texas in Austin, where they participate in a week-long festival of masterclasses, recitals, and panel discussions with Butler School of Music and Austin Opera, as well as leading opera industry personnel. The competitive festival concludes with the Grand Concert, featuring the pre-professional singers with the Central Texas Philharmonic and conductor Stefan Sanders, Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Bates Recital Hall.
These finalists receive international recognition, a prize of $3,000 (US) and a professional-grade audio and video recording of their performance with orchestra to use in launching their career.
Austin Opera is proud to launch the Audience Choice award this year where the performer selected by the audience at the Grand Concert will receive an additional $1,000 award.
