EDUCATORS: Women's History Month materials feat. "The Trial of Susan B. Anthony"

EDUCATORS & STUDENTS – Free access during the month of MARCH!!!

Thanks to a partnership between ADA Artist Management, Austin Opera, Berkshire Opera Festival, Minnesota Opera, Opera Colorado, and San Diego Opera, educators and students can view the digital film of The Trial of Susan B. Anthony by Steven Mark Kohn in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Below, a link to a comprehensive curriculum unit with activities and lessons for students K-12 focusing on music, theatre, language arts, and U.S. History. A link to watch the video is included in the materials.

Austin Opera’s Teen Ambassador, Andres Ramos, joins student representatives from Minnesota Opera and Opera Colorado to ask Mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala questions about her experience singing The Trial of Susan B. Anthony.

About the opera:
Mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala plays multiple roles, including the judge, the prosecuting and defense attorneys, a witness, and Susan B. Anthony herself in this seven-movement piece outlining the activist’s quest for justice. She is accompanied by pianist Myra Huang.

The digital world premiere of The Trial of Susan B. Anthony in October of 2020 came amidst the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, inviting conversation about this milestone of democracy, along with the work that remains to achieve gender and racial equity. The 30-minute program premiered on ADA’s YouTube channel.

A special PUBLIC ENCORE PERFORMANCE will be made available to the general public all-day March 8th, International Women’s Day!
