Health Update

March 18, 2020

Dear Austin Opera family,

Due to the restrictions on mass gatherings put forth by Mayor Steve Adler and recommendations from the CDC aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19, all previously scheduled Austin Opera performances and events for the 2019-2020 Season must be canceled.

Our top priority as we move forward is to care for the entire Austin Opera family, including our patrons, artists, and staff. This means finding new ways to bring art and connectedness to you even when we can’t occupy the same space.

Artistry in a Time of Social Distancing
We have several exciting digital artistic offerings in the works:

  • We are thrilled to announce that our upcoming Opera ATX production of Schubert’s Winter Journey (Winterreise) will now be produced as a film which will be made available to our patrons in the coming months. This project will take place in partnership with the creative visionaries at GLMMR (NYC) and Subvrsive (Austin), and will enable this innovative work, originally conceived as a local production, to now reach a global audience.
  • We are also pleased to announce that beginning this Friday, Austin Opera will begin a new broadcast concert series titled “Live from Indy Terrace.” At 3:00 p.m. each Friday you can join us on Facebook to see world-class artists performing for you from our rehearsal hall. We are delighted that Metropolitan Opera Competition winner, soprano Elena Villalón, will launch this new digital program series with a special recital in partnership with Austin Opera Principal Coach and pianist, Nyle Matsuoka. If you are unable to join us online at that time, each concert will be recorded and shared with you via our website and social media channels.

We hope these efforts will bring you some much needed creative respite and a sense of community as we move through these unprecedented circumstances.

For those of you with outstanding tickets to the remainder of the season, please consider converting your ticket purchase into a donation to Austin Opera.  Our Trustees have generously stepped forward to match donations from converted ticket purchases to help compensate our artists and ensure the ongoing health of the organization. Your donation will provide critical support for the artistic community at our most vulnerable hour.

Alternatively, the value of your tickets can be applied to your account as a credit and used towards tickets for our 2020-2021 Season. For your convenience, please fill out the form below to let us know if you’d like to proceed with one of these options or a refund. Please note this form is the most expedient way for us to assist you.

We are also happy to discuss your ticketing options and answer any further questions you may have at [email protected] or 512-472-5992.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during these unprecedented times. We promise that we will continue to work around the clock to ensure that world-class art continues in our community. Your ongoing support is very much appreciated.

Warmest regards,

Annie Burridge
