Timothy Myers

Timothy Myers is the Sarah & Ernest Butler Music Director of Austin Opera, where he works collaboratively to shape an artistic culture built on presence, trust, and creative risk. His leadership centers on a belief in the singular power of live performance: what becomes possible when artists and audiences share an experience in real time, with urgency, imagination, and a willingness to discover something together.

At Austin Opera, Myers has led performances across a wide range of repertoire while helping shape an artistic vision that brings the company's work into unexpected spaces and forms. That spirit has taken opera from the stage to the Circuit of the Americas for Tosca, to film with David T. Little and Royce Vavrek's Vinkensport, and into virtual reality with Beethoven in VR: Fidelio, created with Washington National Opera. Nationally broadcast PBS projects have further extended that work, reflecting a commitment to preserving the immediacy of live performance while exploring new ways for audiences to experience it.

Myers is also Music Director of the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, where he has led a period of notable artistic growth, expanding the ensemble's range and profile while deepening its role across the Festival. In 2025, he helped establish a recording initiative with Phenotypic Records in partnership with Apple Music Classical, extending the orchestra's distinctive work beyond the festival stage.

Beyond Austin and Spoleto, Myers appears with leading orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States and internationally. His work spans opera, symphonic repertoire, contemporary music, and interdisciplinary projects. Whether in the opera house or concert hall,
