Supernumerary Casting

Supernumeraries are people of all ages who share the stage with operatic artists. These non-speaking, non-singing roles are similar to extras in movies.  Casting needs vary per production – Supers can play soldiers, townspeople, nuns, gypsies and more! A Super’s enthusiasm and cooperation as they fully participate in the onstage action is an important part of any production.

The Austin Opera accepts Supernumerary applications any time of the year for all those interested in being a part of an operatic production. To apply, download this blank application form. Fill in the appropriate information and save the form. Email the completed form and a headshot/photo of yourself to [email protected] with “Supernumerary Application” in the subject line. Once received, the Austin Opera will add your name to our files, and we will contact you if your description fits our casting needs for a production. Supers are paid a small stipend for their involvement in a production.
