Chorus Auditions

CHORUS AUDITIONS FOR THE 2021-2022 SEASON WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING DATES:

  • Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Friday, October 8, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM           

ALL AUDITIONEES MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED AND SHOW PROOF OF VACCINATION IN ORDER TO SCHEDULE AN AUDITION.  NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT PROOF OF VACCINATION.

Please review the rehearsal and performance schedules carefully. You do not have to be available for the entire season to audition. All singers receive a fee for their work.

Rehearsal and Performance Schedule

 

2021—2022 Chorus Productions (there will be no chorus for the fall 2021 production):

1. The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs by Mason Bates
PERFORMANCES:  February 3, 5, 6, 2022

  • Opera Chorus Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, December 2, 2021
  • Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday morning and afternoon.
  • Tech and dress rehearsals are in the evenings during Production Week:  Sunday through Tuesday, January 30 – February 1, 2022

2. Fidelio by Ludwig Van Beethoven-Semi-staged concert
PERFORMANCES:   April 29, May 1, 2022

  • Opera Chorus Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, April 5, 2022
  • Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday morning and afternoon.
  • Tech and dress rehearsals are in the evenings during Production Week:  Monday through Thursday, April 24 – 27, 2022.

 

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Please prepare two selections in contrasting styles.  You may not be asked to sing both selections in their entirety. Choices may be made from the opera or oratorio repertoire, or art song.  No musical theatre, please.  At least one of the selections should be in a language other than English.  A pianist is provided.

Supernumerary Casting

Supernumeraries are people of all ages who share the stage with operatic artists. These non-speaking, non-singing roles are similar to extras in movies.  Casting needs vary per production – Supers can play soldiers, townspeople, nuns, gypsies and more! A Super’s enthusiasm and cooperation as they fully participate in the onstage action is an important part of any production.

The Austin Opera accepts Supernumerary applications any time of the year for all those interested in being a part of an operatic production. To apply, download this blank application form. Fill in the appropriate information and save the form. Email the completed form and a headshot/photo of yourself to rgraham@austinopera.org with “Supernumerary Application” in the subject line. Once received, the Austin Opera will add your name to our files, and we will contact you if your description fits our casting needs for a production. Supers are paid a small stipend for their involvement in a production.
