Concerts at the Consulate
Concerts at the Consulate is a collaboration between Austin Opera and the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin designed to spotlight Latinx composers and artists and celebrate Hispanic culture.
Renowned Mexican mezzo-soprano Claudia Chapa joins Austin Opera’s team as Artistic Curator of the series. Concerts at the Consulate events will include musical performances, discussions of the artistic and social context of the program, programming for families and children, and the promotion of cultural and social organizations doing important work in Austin’s Latinx community.

Upcoming Performances
Join us for our next Concert at the Consulate event on Wednesday, July 17 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin. Austin Opera Associate Director of Artistic Administration and Curator of Latinx & Hispanic Programming Claudia Chapa and Austin Opera Resident Star Willie Casper will perform popular and beloved Mexican and Latinx song selections with pianist Maimy Fong. Wine reception to follow.

Enjoy the 2022-2023 Season Concerts at the Consulate and La Noche de Ópera event, featuring opera standards and art songs by Latinx composers performed by soprano Megan Pachecano and pianist James Maverick.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the event will be accompanied by a Folkloric Ballet Guzman, followed by a talk on the traditional Mexican clothing worn by the dancers by Mrs. Irma Copado. Guests can also enjoy an ongoing exhibit by Mexican artist Antonio Muñoz. Audience members are invited to the La Noche de Ópera reception with the artists immediately following the performance.

Austin Opera and the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin are honored to feature a concert by Afro-Dominican soprano Zuly Inirio and pianist Maimy Fong during Black History Month with songs celebrating culture, history, and love. Zuly is an acclaimed soloist throughout the US and Europe and is the founder of The Afro-Latinx Song & Opera Project and the Co-creator of Latina Women in Opera which celebrates and supports Latina and Latinx people in the opera community. In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, Austin Opera and the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin are delighted to feature a Mariachi concert by mezzo-soprano Vanessa Alonzo and Trio Chapultepec and the launch of Mariana Nuño’s new book, Dining with the Dead. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the Consulate’s ofrenda in honor of the late Mexican composer Armando Manzanero and a display of Tzompantli by local artists with an introduction and explanation of the tradition by Claudia Montero.
