From March of 2021: A partnership between ADA Artist Management, Austin Opera, Berkshire Opera Festival, Minnesota Opera, Opera Colorado, and San Diego Opera, attend the digital film of The Trial of Susan B. Anthony by Steven Mark Kohn.
Mezzo-soprano Adriana Zabala plays multiple roles, including the judge, the prosecuting and defense attorneys, a witness, and Susan B. Anthony herself in this seven-movement piece outlining the activist’s quest for justice. She is accompanied by pianist Myra Huang.
The digital world premiere in October of 2020 came amidst the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, inviting conversation about this milestone of democracy, along with the work that remains to achieve gender and racial equity. The 30-minute program premiered on ADA’s YouTube channel.
